About Me

A long time ago in a town not so far away…

I’m creative, both in the traditional sense and in the way I problem-solve. I am a fast learner and work hard. There is always more to learn and another puzzle to solve. I have experience working on teams, and leading others. I am task-oriented and adaptable.

I’m married, 40 years old, and I live in Cambridge with my wife and our two dogs. I’ve had a lot of varied experiences in my life. I have a degree in criminal justice, worked in the service industry mainly in rock clubs, taught public school students for 8 years, have a Master’s degree in teaching math, a certificate for web development, and most recently I’ve completed an immersive course to become a UI/UX Designer.

UI/UX fits a lot of my interests and strengths. I am an observant and analytical person. I am constantly viewing the world around me and making editorial judgments on behavior, design layouts, commercials, you name it. It drives my wife crazy. As a creative person who loves color and playing with typefaces UI/UX is fun for me. There is something about UI/UX that also speaks to my love of puzzles. Each design, each feature is a puzzle waiting to be solved.

There are times when I want to work solo on something, but having peers to work with is incredibly valuable to me. The primary way I improved as a teacher was by learning from my colleagues. Certainly, I have my own experiences and skills that are valuable, but I also pride myself on knowing that I’m not the best at what I do, and there are people around me that can help me improve. Learning and growing as a person and a designer is important to me.

Sometimes it is better to let others speak for you. Here are what a couple of my former colleagues have to say about me:

I worked closely with Nick on a strategic account with a complicated website. As tech lead for the site, he was always a quick and independent solution finder. He developed smart strategies for managing the client’s changing technical requirements, as well as documenting their needs so that our larger tech team was able to collaborate, as needed. A rare find in the tech world, Nick is also a great communicator. I hope I get the chance to work with Nick again in the future.

Nick has a wonderful rapport with people. His ability to connect and network… and his talent at teaching concepts and applications are both exceptional. He has excellent written and verbal communication skills, is extremely organized, reliable and computer literate. He can work independently and is able to follow through to ensure that the job gets done. He accomplishes these tasks with great initiative and with a very positive attitude.

Through his personable relationships… he has been able to evoke a sense of pride and ownership of learning in many of our scholars.
